An old pupil of Kandinsky and Paul Klee, Jean Leppien (1910-1991) is a German painter who graduated from the prestigious Bauhaus School and from the Itten School (photography). He worked besides Monoholy Nagy from 1931 to 1932 in Berlin before moving to Paris in 1933.Engaged in the resistance, he was deported to Auchwitz and then liberated by the allies.

A path full of encounters and prestigious education compose his world. In fact, he focuses in the ascent of abstract painting and on the treatment of the color and geometric shapes. He is one of the driving forces of current Constructivism.

The artist has done multiple exhibitions (France, Germany, Italy), at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles (which gathers the elite of abstract art), at the galleries of Deux Iles, Colette Allendy, Denise René..... his work is part of public collections as well: Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin, Museum of Grenoble, Museum of Modern Art of the city of Paris, Museum of Strasbourg..... Jean Leppien was appointed Officer of Arts and Letters and was the winner of the Kandinsky Prize in 1948.
