Born in 1961 - France
Marie-Pierre Maquet was born in Algeria in 1961. During the independence in 1962, her parents moved to France. Soon afterwards, they decided to leave for French Guiana, this where the artist was brought up. She went back to France then Belgium and finally moved to the United States. A self-taught painter, she has a passion for oil painting.
Her work constantly evolves, and heads towards works between drawing and sculpture, from recovered objects. Mostly, the artist creates canvases through the use of coffee capsules, whose contrasts help in creating portraits of celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Amy Winehouse, women's bodies or simply unknown people.
Since her first exhibition in 2001, Marie-Pierre Maquet has been regularly exhibiting in France and USA.
