Presentation

Born in 1967, Alexandre Van Buuren is a French painter. His first aritistic expériences were caricatures. When he was 17, he went to Mexico and started his studies in plastic arts at the Cultural Institute Cabanas de Guadalajara. In this city, he immersed himself in the Mexican artistic scene, frequenting daily the monumental works of José Clemente Orozco and the numerous mural frescoes in the city. He came back to France in 1995, country in which he currently lives and works.

Alexandre Van Buren's universe is painted with strangeness, to the point that it is outdated. Comic strips, urbanity and science fiction are his major sources of inspirations, resulting in pieces that are a between dreams and reality.

The artist's works have been the subject of solo and group exhibition in France as well as abroad, in Mexico and the United States. In 2010, he illustrated "Le Sucrier" an artist book published by La Pénurie editions. In 2012, his work was exhibited at the Council of Europe.
