Born in 1983 - Germany
Pius Fox was born in 1983 in Berlin; he lives and works in Berlin.
A graduate of the University of Arts in Berlin (UdK), he has recently had exhibitions in Germany (Martin Mertens gallery, Berlin and Munich) and the United Kingdom (Patrick Heide gallery, London).
Pius Fox revisits architectural patterns and elements borrowed from great masters. To these elements, he adds his contemporary vision, a new and surprising dimension.
Pius Fox works with small formats. His paintings are often abstract. He plays with transparencies, thicknesses, contrasting colors, letting the different layers overlap. His colors are sweet, sober, the contours of his images are strongly defined.
When figuration appears, it seems to be almost an intruder. Pius Fox seeks a tension between form and context, a classic and contemporary frame and pace.
This is what he says about his work:
On the infinite duration of painting. The permanence re search. The legacy of a trace in the snow. The painting is the search for a place, a space, the search for reality and the temptation to find it. What I want to see as a representative of this reality is what excites me because I don't know it.
The painting is not visualization, but the search for what is not yet know. It is the infinite duration and the excitement, the limit and the immensity. The circles of the eagle.
When the painting is dry and thus it becomes idle, the true speech begins to prosper, the speech of what has been reached and what hasn?t. It is then that the short or the long moment of the end of a painting begins, and the question of whether one has arrived or if they should continue the journey. It is a fight, an endless wake state.
