Presentation

Ronald Franke (10.06.1960 - 30.01.2015, Koln) is a German painter. He studied at the School of Art of Cologne from 1982 to 1988. After this training, he obtained the Cadenabbia scholarship two times in 1983 and in 1991, as well as a grant from the City of Oberkirch.

The city and urban landscapes are a recurrent motif in Ronald Franke's work. In his canvases, the artist represents the intersections, the highways, the railways, as well as all the architectures that constitute a modern city. Ronald Franke's work can not leave the viewer neutral, the impassive and dynamic urban views, provoke an almost paradoxical aftertaste. When he was diagnosed with a disease in 2012, the artist did not give up his favorite subjects, instead he started innovating in the size of the format which became increasingly big and imposing. In his more recent works, the lines of his compositions have become curves: roundabouts, tram tracks and highways form swirls. There are no more lines, but circles.

His works are exhibited internationally, in Germany as well as in the Netherlands, among others.
