Born in 1978 in Heerlen (The Netherlands)
In 1998, Melanie Bonajo moved to Amsterdam and entered the Gerrit Rietveld Academy where she majored in Photography and Fine Arts.Since then, she works as an artist, exhibiting her photographs in major art institutions such as the prestigious Kruller Muller Museum (De Hoge Veluwe ,NL), the SMBA (Amsterdam), the Foam Gallery (Amsterdam) or the Institut Neérlandais in Paris.
Exhibited in two of the leading Amsterdam galleries - Van Zoetendaal and Fons Welters - she is currently preparing a solo show at Fette Gallery (Los Angeles) for 2008. In addition to numerous exhibition catalogues, a book showcasing a retrospective of her work will be released in December 2007.
Her work has been published in Eye magazine, Foam magazine, Glu,Vice, Nuke, Dazed & Confused, Livraison and many more. Among her prestigious contributions, she collaborated with fashion designers ( Bernard Willhelm, Cassette Playa, Andrea Crews…etc…) and musicians (Kevin Blechdom, Planning to Rock, Sonic Youth, Coco Rosie, Kim Hiorthoy). She also worked for Amsterdam agency Kessels Kramer.
Since 2004, she is the Creative Editor of the photo art magazine, Capricious.
Together with Joseph Marzolla, Melanie Bonajo plays in ZaZaoZo, a space, folk, tribal pop music project.
