Born in 1934 - Netherlands
Klaas Gubbels was born in 1934 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem, where he lives and works since 1952. He regularly visits the South of France, where he has his own studio. Between 1966 and 1990 he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts of Rotterdam.
One of the of characteristics of his work is his desire to distance himself from the idea of ??aesthetics as it is traditionally defined. He fights against any notion of conventional beauty, because according to him beauty is an imaginary idea that distances us from reality.
He uses geometric shapes and bright colors to give a new definition to aestheticism and create a personal universe. Klaas is not interested in figurative subjects, he depicts the emotions directly on his paintings: humor, poetry, aggressiveness etc.
Many of his works have been bought by private collectors and museums including the Gemeentemuseum of Anrhem, the Stedelijk Museum in Schiedam and in Amsterdam.
