Born in 1927 - Nicaragua
Armando Morales in a painter born in Nicaragua in 1927. The youngest child of a very religious family of six children, he became passionated about oil painting at an early age. His talents were not unnoticed, and his teachers encouraged him in his work. He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Managua, where he followed a very strict school curriculum. In 1956, a young married man, he decided to settle in Spain with his wife. Ten years later, they left to live in New York. In 1976, they tried to return to Nicaragua, but the violence in the country prevented it and they saw themselves obliged to settle in Costa Rica. In 1982, they moved to Paris, after Armando was named embassador of the UNESCO by the Nicaraguan government.
In 1970, Armando Morales started painting fruits in a luminous and almost sensual way. This period represented a transition in his style and in the subjects that he approches. The logical continuation according to him was in fact to start doing nudes. The canvases that he creates are challenged by the precision of his line: each muscle and each tranch of skin are scrupulously represented, making tribute to the human body and all its sensuality.
Armando Morales makes numerous lithographs as well representing Sandino.
In 1956, he obtained the first prize at the Central American Painting Contest thanks to a canvas that was later on bought by the MoMa. In 1966, he won the "Industrial Tandil" prize at the Third American Biennale in Argentina. From 1984 to 2000, he held seven large-scale exhibition at the Claude Bernard Gallery in Paris. A big part of his lithographs are exhibited in South America, particularly in Mexico.
Armando Morales died in Miami in 2011.
