Biography
Joanna Karpowicz is a Polish artist born in 1976.
She studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts of Krakow under the tutelage of Professor Leszek Misiak.
An author of comic strips and painter at the same time, Joanna Karpowic's paintings are inspired by Edward Hopper's voyeurism, or by the work of David Hockney or Buffet.
Strongly influenced by illustration, in her paintings she often makes reference to cinema, literature and music, with a particular appreciation for night scenes and the false sense of security given by artificial light.
She has published three comic books: "Szminka" (2003), "Jutro bedzie FUTRO" (2004) and "Postcards from Bialystok" (2012).
