Born in 1979 - Romania
Oana Cosug was born in 1979 in Romania. She studied at the Fine Arts Academy of Bucharest and at the Academy Royale of Beaux Arts in Brussels. She lives and works in Brussels. Drawing is, for Oana Cosug, a field of investigation that allows her to set her fantasies free. Its function is not that of depicting the visible, but to conceive the improbable, and it evokes fears and the fascination of desire.
The figurative approach of the subject, combined to an abstract and geometric play on lines, has to role to provoke the viewer to several enigmas. In her drawings, Oana Cosug expresses an impression of anguish, taking away the reassurance of reality. The portraits are not easy to identify. Hands seem to search something, to express infinity, to search for a space that is indefinable.
For her, drawing is means to reappropriate transitory images, often insignificant, as this medium requests time and energy. Images come to her and she materializes them, with references from art history. They nourish her and she tries to appropriate them, and everything becomes history in progress.
Using humous and irony as a form of poetic conceptualism, her drawings take the viewer in a workd of fantasies where the rules of the absurd refer to events, with a sensitivity that is both spiritual and sarcastic.
