Federico Gonzalez Granell

Born in 1974 - Spain

BIOGRAPHY

Federico Gonzalez Granell, Spanish painter born in 1974, lives and works in Oviedo, his hometown. He is a Fine Arts graduate from the University of Salamanca, and he also studied in London, as well as in Italy, at the New Academy of Fine Arts in Milan (Socrates scholarship), and then at the Academy of Fine Arts, Via Ripetta in Rome (fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

In his work, Granell gives great importance to humans, who are at the center of his reflection. Anonymous ones, in different environments: the city, railway stations, airports etc. This anonymity is strengthened by the position of his characters, most often seen from behind, their faces hidden.

Static or not, these silhouettes bear the weight of loneliness, and of the waiting, that the artist captures beautifully in his "Airports" series. Federico Granell bases his work on photographic documentation. By their framing, these paintings, thanks to the particular treatment of the space and light, offer the viewer a possibility for interpretation, which exceeds the limits of the canvas.
