Miquel Barceló

Born in 1957 - Spain

Miquel Barceló was born January 8, 1957 in Felanitx on the Spanish island of Majorca in the Balearic Islands, he is a Majorcan Spanish artist associated with the neo-expressionist movement. Although Miquel Barceló was initially devoted to painting and drawing, he followed the trend of the 90s on using sculpture and ceramic works as alternative supports for his artistic creations.

Miquel Barceló received two major orders, one for the decoration of the Chapel Sant Pere from the Palma de Majorca Cathedral in 2007 and the other from the Spanish government for the dome of the Palace of Nations of the UN in Geneva in 2008.

Since the mid 90s, Miquel Barceló lives and works alternately in Mallorca, Paris and Mali on the cliffs of Bandiagara. He received the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, in 2003.
