Iñigo Arregi (Arrasate/Mondragon, 1954) met Jorge Oteiza when he was a teenager and this meeting tiggered his love for art.
Oteiza and Chilida, all two architects working with the void, have influenced his aesthetic questionings greatly.
Iñigo devoted himself to painting for many years, and his works bear in them the idea of volume and a clear attempt to achieve depth, a quest for 3D as well as an obvious sculptural language. The line that unites the painter and the sculptor was therefore traced quite naturally because sculpture was already present in his work and research.
His body of work is the result of his technical expertise and his knowledge of materials. He draws and designs his pieces in wood at first, then he remodels them with the help of his computer, using a 3D scanner in order to determine the exact dimensions of the sculpture. He studies with extreme precision each piece and determines its final dimensions, the ideal location and the details of its finish.
