Born in 1931 and died in 2005, Joan Hernandez Pijuan was a Spanish artist.

He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi in Barcelona and made his first exhibition in 1953, where he presented his pieces of expressionist style. Two years later, he presented his work during his first private exposition at the Municipal Museum of Mataro.

Very close of artists Carles Planell, Edouardo Alcoy and Joseph Maria Rovira Brull, he founded with them a group they named Silex.Their research was based on the relationship between contemporary and primitive art.They had a strong interest for abstraction and expressionism.

Joan Hernandez Pijuan's work is characterized by refined compositions with uniform colors patches.
