Born in 1944 - Spain
Manolo Belzunce was born in Lorca, Spain, in 1944. He studied at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Murcia. He began his career as a painter in the studio of Carlos Gomez. In the sixties and seventies, he lived alternately in Murcia, Las Palmas, Brussels and Barcelona, where he became professor at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Rubì. Later on, he moved to Arles and then returned to Spain, where he founded an engraving workshop with artists Josep Borras and Carlos Mendez.
His works, paintings or collages, are the result of various inspirations and influences, ranging from his trips to Africa to allegories, myths and historical elements.
Manolo Belzunce has obtained numerous awards and grants in Spain and Europe. His work is represented in more than 50 museums around the world, and it has been exhibited by galleries in Spain, France, Hungary, Netherlands, England, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.
His work is shown in more than 50 museums around the world, he has illustrated several books Artist and has made numerous murals. The list of exhibitions occupy too much space.
In 1986 one of his works win the award from the Autonomous University of Bellaterra for a mural at the School of Translators and Interpreters. The murals have been key to the art of Belzunce.
In 1988 workshops with students of Arts and Crafts Schools in Ciudad Real and Teruel.
He resides in 1992 for three months, a grant from the Ministry of Culture of France in Poitiers, where he made a sculpture in collaboration with students L.P.A. Grand Pont, and exhibited at the gallery Confort Moderne in Poitiers.
In 1993 he held his first retrospective exhibition, specifically at the Sant Cugat Cultural Centre. Also it has a retrospective exhibition at the Cultural Center Joan Cabré Calaceite (Teruel).
The year 1995 would be one of the most international in its exhibitions. He traveled to Budapest and exhibited drawings and prints at the Museum of Budapest. Also in the Netherlands, particularly in Amsterdam, he showed his work at the International Art Fair.
Return to Murcia and latest works
In 1996 return to Murcia, the land where he was born, to spend a long season.
After two years he is funded by the University of Lille Charles DeGaulle for the realization of a sculpture in Villeneuve CampusUniversitario D¿agtsen France.
Two of the latest works by Manolo Belzunce have been the creation of the mural Children playing in the acequia¿ for the Open Air Museum of the city of Ceuta, and in 2005, along with Haro, the Mural of Children's Hospital in Chingetti Mauritania.
