Presentation

Carl Reuterswärd is a Swedish artist, born in Stockholm in 1934 and died in Landskrona in 2016. He studied with Fernand Léger during early 50's, then joined the Fine Arts Royal Academy in Stockholm. In this institution, he took up the teaching profession from 1965 until 1969. During the 70's, he worked in USA, where he taught at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. At the age of 55, he suffered from a cerebral vascular episode, which paralyzed his right side. This event pushed him to work hard and learn to write and paint once again, but only with his left hand.

When he heard about the assassination of his friend John Lennon on the 8th of December in 1980, the artist was so shaken up and angry that he decided to create a work around the theme on non-violence, and called it « Non-violence » as well. This work turned out to be his most famous sculpture, it depicts a revolver with a knotted barrel.

The artist is world famous, his work has been exhibited in one of the most prestigious contemporary art museums, in Europe and USA.
