Presentation

Gen Atem, alias Gen-U-One, is a pioneer of European street art. His work from the early 80?s, paintings on metro trains and on walls, and live shows in public places in Zurich, Paris, Barcelona, Copenhagen and many other cities played an important role in the establishment of the European culture of street art.

During the 80s, he has lived in New York, where he has had several exhibitions and performances with Rammellzee, a pioneer and an old member of the hip-hop culture school and an artist known internationally.

After graduating from his graphic arts studies, Gen Atem has studied eastern philosophy, meditation and calligraphy in a Buddhist monastery for seven years and has become a Zen-priest. His street art experience and his relationship to the eastern philosophy inspire his work constantly.
