Syrian Arab Republic  • 1978

Presentation

Born in Sweida in 1978, Omar Ibrahim is a Syrian painter and sculptor who lives and works in France.

The artist entered the Damascus University in order to study Visual Arts. Once he graduated, he decided to devote himself to painting and sculpture. In his work, the artist uses a lot of symbolic images and objects to question the nature of man and his living conditions.

Syrian culture and history has particularly influenced his pieces with recurring elements such as the sagging trees, the tired birds and the empty houses. But this longing of his country has given him a limitless freedom of expression.

In his paintings, Omar Ibrahim uses color to symbolize states such as black for the exterior world and white for the spiritual world. His art is a way to explore his own thoughts and emotions caused by the Syrian conflict. He acknowledges that painting for him is a way to create his own world in order to heal the wounds of his soul.

His pieces have been exhibited in Dubai, Tokyo, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and lately in Paris; since he moved to the city.
