Born in 1966 - Ukraine
Yana Bystrova comes from several family generations of artists. After accomplishing a traditional Soviet Socialist art education (Fine Art School and Academy) in Kiev, she briefly made an appearance in the art life of Kiev and Moscow. Soon though, she finds it more compelling to leave the country (her leaving coincides with the end of the Soviet regime) therefore she decides to continue her career in Western Europe.
Based in Paris since 1991, she visited London frequently in the 90's and continued to develop her style and techniques. She tried photography, silk-screen prints and digital art. Out of curiosity, she also learned computer programming.
Though her main interest since the very beginning has been the importance and the psychological impact of color, the ambivalence of perception and interpretation of images.
Her experience in multimedia revealed the interactive aspect of her work. There are many ways of interpreting may that be a painting or anything else. According to her, the spectator is often engrossed in the process of analyzing.
