Zofia Rydet was born in Ukraine, in 1911, and she lived to be 86. She started her artistic career quite late, after many years of work as a saleswoman.
She is known to be ahead of her time in the Polish artistic world. Her works and her experience show her independence and her modern approach of photography.
At the end of the ?60s she starts to experiment with the photomontage, and appreciates this technique that she continues using all her life. At first, she overlaps elements of the human body and landscapes and elements of architecture. Thre is an interaction between the foreground and the background, and the results are often surrealistic and intimate visions.
Rydet?s practice also involves ?classic? photography. This is the technique she uses for her most important series, "The Sociological Record". This project continues until 1978 and involves thousands of shots; afterwards, the artist starts to take portraits of people in ancient countryside houses. Its coherence, its regularity and a particularly sensitive approach consecrated this project in the context of international avant-garde photography.
