Presentation

Deborah Partington is a London based artist, originally trained in textiles at Central Saint Martins. Her print designs reflect a love of nature and often feature animals and birds.

More recently she has begun to experiment with sculpture and in the last couple of years she began creating creatures from torn cotton paper. She first paints the paper with inks or water colours then tears and stitches the paper to form the bird. The resulting work is intricate yet has a loose quality as the torn paper resists over manipulation. The archival paper though it appears fragile, is strong and resilient, rather like the creatures represented.

Deborah Partington’s artwork is incredibly original and intricate. It delicately explores the boundless possibilities and characteristics of both her chosen materials and the subjects.
