I am interested in the memory of places and the process of documenting these memories.

Cycling provides the perfect pace for taking in a landscape whilst quick enough to travel substantial distances. In places one can slow and appreciate the view whilst at other times the camera records views one cannot stop for. Each artwork is the result of a journey and aims to capture something of that ride. Sketches and photographs are the starting point for a painting. Photographs from each ride are roughly collaged into memories of the journey to create an idea for the painting. Empty spaces appear and remain within these images.

These areas are lost and forgotten moments that are not digested, understood or seen. During the exploration of these scenes whilst painting, the missing information becomes as important, or more so, than what has been painted.
