Tessa Houghton is an English painter born in 1984.
As far as she can remember, Tessa Houghton has always drawn, did sketches, painted... She thus decided to study Beaux-Arts at the John Moore University of Liverpool. In 2000, she left England for Barcelona and started to paint the sea.
Tessa Houghton describes her work as semi-abstract and mainly turned towards natural landscapes. She works with oil painting and other techniques but always on a canvas. Her inspiration comes directly from places where she spent most of her time: The Catalan coasts, the Pyrenees as well as the countryside in the North of England.
Painting and other mediums are used in different ways, the important layers of texture thus contrast with the represented landscape, much more subtle. Light is an essential key of the work of Tessa Houghton. Colors and forms are simplified in order to capture the true essence of the subject.
