Born in 1967 - United Kingdom
Paul Richard Mason is an American painter and sculptor born in 1967 in Rockford, Pennsylvania, United States.
At 13, he moved to England, where he began painting. He then settled down in the south of France at 25, and fell for Saint-Tropez. Self-taught and a multidisciplinary artist, Paul Richard Mason is a painter, an accomplished musician, published poet, but also a sculptor specializing in wood and terracotta.
« Les expressions de l’homme » is the first series of paintings he produced, which soon caught a New York gallery's attention and led him to be a resident artist for one year. From then on, he went on an exhibition spree in Europe (France, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, London) and US (New York, Boston). His early success led him to open his own studio-gallery in Cogolin in 2008 and a second one in 2010, at the center of Saint-Tropez.
His black and white but also colorful paintings are usually minimalist with its patterns and shapes, the artist likes to vary techniques all the while using intense gestures.
He mainly works with his memory and imagination and doesn't choose one field in particular. In fact he draws many fragments of images that he picked up here and there and which influenced him. His works are figurative, but not realistic, therefore permitting him to express true emotions.
Strongly influenced by Picasso and Braque, Robert Combas is known for his colorful style but also indigenous arts. Recently, Paul Richard Mason addressed the theme of feminine sensuality in a colorful manner, and it's more a portrayal of design and architecture.
Paul Richard Mason recently exhibited at the Twentytwo Gallery (Lyon), Contemporary Art Monaco fair, Giacobetti Gallery (New York), at Hôtel Villa Belrose (Saint-Tropez), during the art shopping fair (Paris), not to mention Château des Launes.
