Douglas Stewart is an enigma. He is a totally self-taught artist, yet has a history in engineering and invention.
Original thought coupled with the ability to perfect an idea has been the hallmark of Douglas' life, in particular his professional life.
The inventor of many items we use today, the holder of over 40 international patents, yet a humble, highly competent and original artist who is breaking ground internationally with his superb original artworks... all oil on canvas. Douglas actually makes his own oil paints using the finest pigments from around the world.
Douglas has looked back to the 1950's and 60's when television broadcasts were often delivered with interference, thus making the image flawed. Douglas has used this as a clue to look at the flaws of those he has painted: icons of the late 20th century.
We see portraits of Mao Tse Tung, Marilyn Munroe, Jim Morrison of the Doors, icons, yet all flawed with weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
Douglas' art is at the cutting edge of contemporary art today and certainly one of the finest artists' anywhere on the planet.
