Présentation

CTK - Crime Time Kings est une collaboration entre :

Bando (Phillip Lehman - 1965) grew up in Paris and New York. After a perusing carriers as a catacombs explorer, graffiti artist, snowboarder, surfer, jazz-rock/funk producer and cave diver, he now lives in the Dominican Republic where he lives and paints (pool side). In the Eighties he formed the infamous pan-European graffiti crew Crime Time Kings.

Niels Shoe Meulman is a visual artist, known for his gestural paintings which reveal vivid traces of Graffiti and Calligraphy. He revolutionized the art of writing when he initiated the Calligraffiti movement, claiming “a word is an image and writing is painting”.

Being a graffiti pioneer from Amsterdam, Shoe worked with New York counterparts such as Dondi White, Rammellzee and Keith Haring in the 1980s. Equally influenced by the great painters of Abstract Expressionism, he gradually found his own way to translate street attitude to gallery walls.

Experimenting within the traditional medium of paint-on-canvas, but also unafraid to venture into new realms like conceptual installations and poetry, Niels Shoe Meulman keeps pushing the limits of Urban Contemporary.

Mode 2 was born in Mauritius in 1967, he spent his childhood under the sun of the Indian Ocean, before moving to the UK in July 1976. Punk had just started its own cultural revolution, while reggae and dub were ever present in the neighborhood “blues” parties, as well as from the first real booming systems in the cars that would ever so often drive casually through the streets of Lewisham, South-East London. “I did all of my schooling there, drawing since as far back as I can remember, spending my youth deep into comics, sci-fi and fantasy literature, as well as role-playing games such as ‘Dungeons & Dragons’”.
So, growing up reading comic books and science-fiction literature in the South-London borough of Lewisham, it is no surprise that Mode 2’s art is fun and frivolous. He is now widely considered to be one of the forerunners of the British graffiti and street art movement. He made a name for himself alongside Scribla, Zaki D, Eskimo and Xerox, also known as the Trailblazers and later formed The Chrome Angel
