Ana Mazzei

Ana Mazzei draws upon literature and theatricality to create her installations and sculptures, which often resemble imaginary scenarios where props are shifted from their typical function. The viewer is always an integral part of her work and is often invited to be a performer through engaging with the space. Such uses of space make the viewer question how we perform for each other on a daily basis. “Whenever I start a new project I find myself involved with a repetitive thought that has something to do with my surroundings; I mean the space around me, or around someone else," she once said. Mazzei does not restrict herself to any one medium, instead incorporating sculpture, photography, prints, video, and sound into her installations. Her work has been exhibited in the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, SESC Pompéia, and Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea, among other art institutions. Mazzei lives and works in São Paulo.
