Presentation

Born in 1990, Jean Piaubert started painting at the age of 18 years old and integrated the Beaux-Arts School of Bordeaux. He started in a workshop of theatre decors before settling in Paris. In spite of difficult first years, where he joined the Academy of the Grande Chaumière, and several workshops of Montparnasse, Paul Poiret noticed him and ordered him several works of art. During this period, he met with Othon Friesz, Raoul Dufy and André Derain. With them, his painting became colorful and less classic.

In the 1930's, he gave up figuration to reach in 1945 total abstraction. He then exhibited at the Creuze gallery and became a major artist of the artistic scene, to the point that the Modern Art museum of Paris ordered him paintings. He left to represent France at the Sao Paulo Biennial and participated to diverse international exhibitions.

Awarded with many prizes along his career, his work is today exhibited in famous private and public collections as Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Modern Art Museum of Paris; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Royal museum, Brussel; Cologne; Copenhagen; Le Havre; Luxembourg; the National Museum of Modern Art, Rome; Santiago; Strasbourg; Turin; Wuppertal.
