Hazul

Portugal  • 1981

Presentation

Hazul, a self-taught artist, has Porto as its cradle and its old streets as a backdrop for artistic growth. The first interventions in public spaces happened in 1997 under the pseudonym of Pong 02, a time in which he discovers the movement Hip-Hop and more specifically the graffiti.

The drawing of letters was the main focus for a few years but with time he started exploring otherpaths.

From 2008, after consolidating a language and establishing an objective course for his work,he assumes the present name of Hazul.

Creations now appear with a more symbolic and dreamlike dimension, where the relationship between the organic and the geometric, between beings and abjects, or between the material and the ethereal is discussed.

The strong lines make the design stand out on orderly and sometimes floating patches. There are influences of primitive art, of ancient civilizations or tribal peoples, resulting in an universal and timeless language and expression.

His work continues ta have the street as the main scenario, keeping this constant dialogue between the contemporary and the ancestor worlds.

Beyond the walls Hazul uses also canvas, papers and found abjects as means ta express himself. Severa events and exhibitions are also part of his curriculum.
