Pamela Tulizo

Pamela Tulizo was born in Bukavu in 1993 in Congo where she lives and works. She trained in journalism in Goma and radio writing at Radio France International before embarking on photography. She obtained a scholarship to study at the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg, from which she graduated in 2019. Her work Double identity won the 2020 edition of the Prix Dior de la photographie.

Paradise hell

During the 2020 Covid pandemic, Pamela Tulizo is challenged by the scenes in supermarkets where Europeans are rushing for toilet paper. In June 2021, in Goma, Congo, she wonders: What would be the essential things in a crisis situation? It would be beans, embers, kerosene for lighting and food that would make it possible to survive.

The soil in this country is so rich, but the people are so poor. This series, between essential and haute couture, is a call that challenges governments to concern themselves with the population, by expressing a paradox; with abundant resources, the Congo, Paradise on Earth, is reputed to be Hell.
