Presentation

Guy de Rougemont was born in Paris in 1935. Abstraction, colors, the integration of forms and colors in the environment, the elimination of the border between sculpture and painting would be the first words that come to mind when trying to characterize Rougemont’s work.

The artist gives himself “the means to radicalize the issue of color". He sets his monumental works in public spaces, in squares, in the street, by the highways but also in front of the Orsay Museum or the Hakone Open Air Museum in Japan.

His cylindric pieces remind of the columns of the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris, in the fall of 1974; one of the most original post-war experiences in color and space, according to Jerome Bindé. Guy de Rougemont explains: "the idea of the tube came to me in 1970, as the tube is the cylinder that appears to be circular when projected on a plan and straight in an elevation - the curve and the straight line are both part of it fundamentally - and the reflections on a cylinder can be elliptical".
