Mr Cute is the pseudonym of a duo of French visual artists of Breton origin. Brothers in life, they develop a four-handed work that is part of the energy of pop art and the street art scene. The duo is best known for their large-format slides that humorously and provocatively revisit the key figures of an entire generation.
Mr Cute is the result of the collaboration of two brothers, originally from Rennes. Their mother, an artist, did sculpture and painting for associations. They therefore grew up in a particular universe, between conservatism and artistic freedom.
After studying art and communication, they practice different professions around audiovisual production, and practice art as an amateur. But the year 2015 marks a turning point in the life of Mr Cute. Following the detection of an orphan disease in one of the two artists, the two brothers decide to take the plunge and become professional artists. Stop waiting for Friday! becomes their motto.
Very quickly, the duo oriented their creations around “living fully and without regrets" with an even crazier ardor at forty than at twenty. Very marked by the 80s, the two artists imagine what the art of each era can say about our relationship to the passage of time.
A fervent admirer of Warhol, and a pure product of pop culture, Mr Cute humorously applies the concept of alternate history, and changes the course of history to imagine what it could have been. His universe arouses positive emotions.
The two brothers feed each other in a creative ping pong. They explore different techniques, including screen printing, stencils or lenticular printing.
Since 2016, the duo has devoted itself entirely to their artistic career and multiplies exhibitions in Europe and the USA. His work can be seen in numerous exhibitions and contemporary art fairs. He is represented by several galleries.
During confinement Mr Cute takes to the streets to share his art and denounce domestic violence. He hangs hijacked traffic signs in the streets of the Parisian capital.
Then in March 2021, he exhibited a portrait of Serge Gainsbourg on the facade of his private mansion rue de Verneuil in Paris, for the 30th anniversary of his death.
Among the other frescoes produced by Mr Cute, we can note the “Stop waiting for Friday" Montparnasse station, the portrait of Etienne Daho in the city center of Rennes, or that of the young Rennes rapper Lujipéka.
All his works bear a 5-franc coin on the back, the year of which proves their authenticity.
