Artwork location: Italy

Sergey Bondarev creates his works with complete disregard for the conventions of the academic art that he studied in its entirety throughout 13 years of schooling. Interconnected composition, deformed anatomical features, reinforced expressiveness of basic elements, that are typical of his works, remind of a dream or a hallucination and send back to neo impressionism and surrealism. Through his technique Bondarev reveals his profound feelings, gives freedom to the color that plays predominant role regardless of the subject of his work. In his new series, Sergey unconsciously embraces the colorful palette.

Some might perceive Ladies as feminist. It seems possible to accurately put each work on a scale based on how radically it promotes socio-political equality. However, it’s a mere illusion. The main characters of Bondarev’s paintings, i.e. the ladies, are not real people, but rather belong to the artist’s universe.

The paintings look great in interiors of different styles and create a bohemian atmosphere, a pleasure for true connoisseurs of painting.

“My art is anti-conceptual: when you look at it, you don’t need to think, you need to feel. I deliberately try to evoke an emotive response from my audience, and often try to provoke my viewers to perceive beauty in something horrendous. Like every artist, I work on an instinctual level, releasing my thoughts without an ounce of control, assembling momentary impressions into collages that I then transform into paintings.
My art is an ironic tale about contemporary society, its aspirations and the images that dominate the minds of its members. It’s a tale about societal consumption and globalization that prompts viewers to notice the intimate places where things are living lives of their own on the backdrop of a chaotic world.”
