El desnudo es un género artístico que busca representar un cuerpo humano completamente descubierto. En su origen, solo los dioses, los seres sobrenaturales y los espíritus que tomaban forma humana eran representados desvestidos. No hablamos entonces de desnudos integrales sino de cuerpos descubiertos. Los seguidores y aficionados de esta técnica artística insisten en la distinción que hace Lucian Freud entre “nude" (desnudo) y “naked" (descubierto). A lo largo de la historia del arte, el Desnudo ha tomado un lugar paradójico en nuestra sociedad. A veces ha sido escandaloso con Edouard Manet, revolucionario con Eugène Delacroix, atrevido con Gustave Courbet, a veces admirado con Egon Schiele, pornográfico con Tom Wesselmann, o incluso recortado con Matisse o cúbico con Marcel Duchamp.
