Biography
His life and his Art are in Sarreguemines. Self-taught artist, he works with wood, a noble and renewable material. He seeks above all simplicity in his creations. It is so present in his works that it leaves a large place for the imagination, for dreams, for the identification of each of us, art lovers or not.
For Jacques Senger, sculpture represents a reason for living, an ever-growing enthusiasm.
Only "Bonhommes" come out of his workshop, they are everyone: they have no sex, no clothes, no social rank, no skin color or religion, no height or weight, no beauty, no age, no intelligence or knowledge, no particular sign, no power, no money, no hands, no feet, no face...
The "Bonhomme" is the extreme simplification of the human being. Taking away something else would make him enter into another context.
His approach is as follows: synthesizing the human being as much as possible and associating him with a plot is the fundamental principle of his work. The result is a disconcerting simplicity and a serenity that we all need in this world where the race against time is inevitable.
The plot allows him to raise his "Man" to the right height but also sometimes contributes to the decor. It is very important, it is the basis of his approach.
The character is an extreme synthesis of every human being living on this planet; he can no longer take anything away from him.
He has no gender, no clothes, no social rank, no skin color or religion, no height or weight, no beauty, no age, no intelligence or knowledge, no particular sign, no power or money, no hands or feet, no face… Inside or outside, from a few centimeters to monumental, the character and the block are of a single piece. In wood, sometimes associated with steel or bronze, his works are above all made to bring you well-being…
Simplicity and serenity are the foundations of Jacques SENGER's work.
