Alto

ALTO is a French painter born in 1965 and living in Toulouse.

From a very young age, he was immersed in an artistic world, with a mother who was a painter in her spare time, and a father who was an amateur photographer.

Very early on, his mother introduced him to the techniques of oil painting... then around the age of 14, he took part in his first workshops with comic book artists.

This naturally led him, a few years later, to join the School of Fine Arts. It was there that he began working on gesture. The objective was to find his own unique gesture, often lost and perverted by the influx of images that we consume every day.

He also deepens his knowledge of color.

This was followed by several years at the architecture school, very rich in exchanges and debates around art and his own work. He got into the habit of presenting his work, submitting it to the gaze of others and critics… and of feeding off these exchanges to grow and go further in his work.

He subsequently worked in the visual arts and music, notably for many years as an independent web designer.

Today, he is picking up his paintbrushes again... to carry out much more personal projects.

His style, which can be defined as abstract figurative, takes its essence from his perpetual research into gesture.

This just and personal gesture which alone can capture the viewer's eye and transport him on an inner journey where violence and tranquility become one.
