Matthew Floranc
Born on January 17, 1982 in Colmar in Alsace.
"Audfray-Petersen" Prize 2018 at the Bry-sur-Marne Animal Artists Fair.
Matthieu Floranc has achieved a remarkable work of power in the most difficult technique which is direct carving for his magnificent Rhinoceros in direct carving on black spring-stone from Zimbabwe.
“From a very young age, I have been drawn to animals.
Seeking their contact has always been synonymous with well-being. It is by observing them, by drawing them at the start that I immersed myself in their physique and their gestures.
Then, one day, I decided to shape the stone...
The world we live in gives me the impression that there is less and less room for the wild world. It saddens me. Transcribe their beauty in stone, charging me with energy and pleasure. Who has never been captivated by seeing a whale emerge from the ocean breaking the waves or the race of a tiger twirling in the snow. The power from the images of this wild beauty inhabits my mind every minute, they guide each stroke of the chisels on the stone I carve."
