Lena Widmann

Germany • 1987

I strive to create objects inspired by the old craft of silk flower creation yet unconstrained by the boundaries of reality.

Biography

Lena Widmann, born in 1987, is a German contemporary multidisciplinary artist based in the Netherlands. Blurring the boundaries between paintings and sculpture, Widmann's work is driven by a profound love for sculpture and a passion for blending disciplines.

Widmann's surreal and sensual objects emerge from the fertile fusion of nature and the human body. She emphasizes the profound relevance of tactility and explores the female body in her expression.

Widmann draws inspiration from her collection of works by 20th-century female surrealists, who depicted the female body as a self-aware subject deeply connected to nature. She channels this inspiration into crafting a world that is both tangible and surreal, guided by the traditional craft of silk flower creation yet unbounded by reality's constraints. For Widmann, creating is more than just producing beautiful objects; it's about offering others the chance to "dream in someone else's mind." She provocatively asks her audience to question the very nature of reality: Isn't realism just an illusion?
