Biography
Born in Newport South Wales, UK in 1963.
A graduate from Brighton School of Art, Gillian's career included exhibitions at the Royal Academy, Hayward Gallery, V&A Museum and the Tate Gallery. In 2014 Gillian decided to train as a sculptor at the Art Academy, London. Today, she has mastered a range of traditional skills that she draws on to create powerful, contemporary figurative pieces that encompass a vast repertoire of human feelings.
Each unique piece is distinctively textured, hand built and finished. Working from life, Gillian's sculptural portraits encompass human differences through race, ethnicity and visual culture. Her tactile work reflects at a deep level what it is to be human and explores the relationship between the mind and the body.
"I'm on a mission to encourage people to enjoy and experience the power and beauty of sculpture in personal environments. The challenge is to notice and view life in a different light, moods, angles and in three dimensions. I want people to see in my work the subtle language of the body, the depth and infinite variety of human emotions. Through my sculpture, I seek to celebrate diversity and ultimately connect us all with a sense of shared humanity."
