Andy Sweet

Biography

Andrew John Sweet, his full name, was born on November 9, 1953 in Miami Beach and was murdered at the age of 29, on October 17, 1982, in his Miami Beach apartment. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Boulder (Colorado), he returned to live and work in his hometown in 1977 and photographed the communities living there in color for 5 years. He is particularly interested in the "elders" of the Jewish community of South Beach, to which he is very close.

His work lives on thanks to the Foundation created by the family, The Andy Sweet Photo Legacy in 2006. A plaque in tribute to the photographer was installed in 2016 in the Art Deco district of South Beach, witness to the recognition and great attachment of the City to the artist too quickly disappeared.
