The moments in life where we lose ourselves to emotion, whether in celebration or melancholy, are special and often cathartic. One of the easiest routes to this state of near nirvana is through music. Whether playing it, dancing or simply allowing your soul to soar with the rhythms, music has been with us since the dawn of history for precisely this reason.
James Sparshatt's search for these moments has taken him to the vibrant streets of Havana, the milonga tango halls of Buenos Aires, the flamenco tavernas of Seville. His black and white photography has captured jazz trumpeters in New Orleans, classical violinists in Soweto and conga drum players in Santiago de Cuba.
We are really happy to present this collection of music and dance photography from Latin America, the American south and beyond in an exhibition entitled The Rhythms of Emotion. We hope they touch your heart and enliven your soul.
James Sparshatt began his photographic career in the early nineties in Bolivia, working as a photojournalist and editor of the Bolivian Times. James has had solo exhibitions of his fine art photography in the US, Ireland, Spain, Cuba, France and across the UK. His work has also been shown at prestigious contemporary art fairs including Art Chicago, Art Hamptons, Slick Paris, Pulse (Miami), Art Market (San Francisco) among others.
We will be showing a selection of his silver gelatin prints as well as a number of exquisite palladium platinum prints produced by The Platinum Printroom at our upcoming art fairs - Art Karlsruhe in Germany from 16th - 20th February, the Battersea Affordable Art Fair in London from 9th - 13th March and the New York Affordable Art Fair in midtown Manhattan from the 23rd - 27th March.
