Holding a degree in painting and contemporary tapestry from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, Sonia Aniceto studied Brussels on Erasmus scholarship and studied in the workshop of tapestry of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels.
The artist stays in Brussels, pursues her studies with a DEA in "Art Actuel", is awarded residencies in several artistic and cultural centers and works in the decoration workshops of the Opéra Royal de la Monnaie.
In parallel to her artistic career, Sonia Aniceto is also a teacher. She teachesin plastic arts and decoration, and works for MUS-E as a guest artist, for plastic arts projects in Brussels schools.
Her career developed in Belgium, Portugal, and in France and Germany where the artist is represented by several galleries.
The artistic approach of Sonia Aniceto can be placed at the crossing between painting and textile art. The wires appear on her paintings as a desire to rebuild what has been destroyed, broken, torn, deleted, and hidden. It is the element that makes the link between the various narrative layers.
