Presentation

Juliana Del Burgo, artistically known as ‘Burgo’, was born in Cascais, Lisbon, Portugal.

With ancestry that can be traced to almost all continents (Brasilian, Polish, Italian, Morrocan, Swiss, Egyptian, Mozambican, and Japanese), Burgo has a bold vision and is intent on making a difference.

Burgo studied art at the Fine Arts University in Lisbon and was also the apprentice of the well-known Russian classic artist, Vladimir Volegov for two years when she was just 16.

Burgo has lived in Lisbon, Florianopolis (Brasil), London (UK), Barcelona (Spain), all over India, Tel Aviv (Israel), exhibiting regularly throughout the world.

The six senses inspire her with an uplifting twist that characterizes her unique vision. Juliana seeks exposure to alternative methods, techniques and ideas throughout her travels that connect to her spiritual and physical roots.

When questioned about her earliest artistic memories, Juliana expressed, “The earliest memories I have are from when I was a small child, hugged by a rainbow of colors, made of textiles of all shapes and textures at my grandmother’s atelier in Cascais, which later developed into daily watercolor sessions at her garden surrounded by Ortensia flowers bougainvillea’s raspberries and tangerines together with Giorgio (the dog).”

After a demoniac burnout during her professional career in Holistic Therapy in March 2017, Burgo started to explore painting the monsters she saw as a form of therapy to conquer her demons.

The desire to create art became an unyielding obligation to herself to explore the inner mechanism of her creative consciousness. From small sketches to large scale projects, Burgo’s art is a highly-personal reflection of herself. A Happy Monster.

Every piece has a story, that is mystified by the happy monster and encourages the viewer to dismistify it discovering a life lesson, learned by the artist.
