Biography

Defining himself as a conceptual painter, François Pagé was born in 1962 in Tours where he currently lives. A multifaceted painter Graduated in Art History and holder of a National Higher Diploma in Plastic Expression obtained at the School of Fine Arts in Tours, François Pagé particularly appreciates the works of Gerhard Richter, painter of the former East Germany, one of the first to look at society through his work. The artist, who hates chance and reflects his paintings up to cm2 is impossible to define stylistically speaking. He crosses the universes struggling not to be “labeled”. For him, art is a means of expression which must lead to the emotion, the questioning and the questioning of both the spectator and the author. A filmmaker of painting Before engaging in his artistic work, François Pagé worked in cinema. He therefore approaches each of his works as a staging. He declares himself to be like a filmmaker who makes his film and therefore leaves no room for spontaneity. It begins with a sketch for the placement of the subject then determines the chromatism and the environment of this one. Between art and poetry François Pagé's artistic sensibility is not expressed only through painting, he also writes poems. Each painting by the artist is also signed with a poem he invented for this specific work. These texts serve as titles, which introduce the viewer into François Pagé's narrative paintings and refer, unlike painting which is timeless, to the immediacy of words.
