No es de extrañar que la palabra hilera se utilice también para describir amplias franjas de campo, o hileras de maíz. La forma de representar la inmensidad de una vista llena de color, sin limitarse a recrear minuciosamente cada detalle, ha contribuido a cambiar ciertos estilos de pintura. Aunque se asocian a las pinceladas más sueltas de los impresionistas, las grandes extensiones de color también encontraron su lugar en el arte abstracto moderno durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. En la teoría del color del arte, los artistas utilizan el color para evocar emociones dentro de las composiciones, ayudando a la expresión. Pero en el arte abstracto, el color se utiliza en su forma más simplista. Por ello, pintar con franjas de color puede transmitir una sensación de libertad, de celebrar el color en su máxima expresión, en abundancia. En la propia selección de obras de Artsper, Marie Labat se centra en la relación entre el hombre y la naturaleza en sus paisajes, utilizando el color para representar los Pirineos Atlánticos. Mientras que Nick Tidnam trabaja con un estudio que se abre a un jardín para dejarse afrentar constantemente por la naturaleza. Puede parecer inútil intentar limitar la inmensidad de un paisaje a un lienzo, pero estos artistas saben que la capacidad de hacerlo reside en el uso del color...

Step by step we went…We were fifteen days on the glacier…at every day’s advance more great, nameless peaks came into view…We gave names to these peaks, not very seriously, since we did not expect our discoveries to come to the attention of geographers.
