Le néo-conceptualisme

Le néo-conceptualisme désigne l'art produit dans les années 1980 et 1990, qui a succédé à l'art conceptuel produit au cours des deux décennies précédentes. Ce terme ne fait pas référence à un groupe d'artistes ou à un style cohérent, mais englobe plutôt divers groupes de l'époque. Ces derniers comprennent notamment les Young British Artists, tels que Sarah Lucas et Damien Hirst, et des artistes américains tels que Sherrie Levine, Cindy Sherman et Barbara Kruger, ou encore les conceptualistes de Moscou. 

Parmi les principales caractéristiques du travail des artistes néo-conceptualistes figurent : la critique sociale et politique, l'anticapitalisme, et la lutte contre la marchandisation de l'art - souvent abordée à l'aide des techniques d'appropriation et d'imitation. Par exemple, de nombreuses femmes artistes associées au néo-conceptualisme s'approprient des éléments de la culture visuelle afin de critiquer à la fois la société et le monde de l'art dominé par les hommes. 

De nombreuses figures importantes du mouvement néo-conceptualiste dans les années 80 et 90 sont toujours actives aujourd'hui. Leur travail a inspiré de nouvelles générations d'artistes. L'appropriation, le pastiche, l'installation, l'utilisation d'objets du quotidien et la technologie numérique sont autant d'éléments encore largement présents dans le monde de l'art contemporain.
