The Renaissance was a fervent period of European cultural, artistic, political and economic rebirth. The period signifies the beginning of the Modern Age in history—a bridging of the gap between the Middle Ages and modern-day civilization. Generally described as taking place from the 14th century to the 17th century, the movement promoted the rediscovery of classical philosophy, literature and art.
On the home shores of Europe, some of the greatest thinkers, authors, statesmen, scientists and artists flourished, whilst abroad global exploration opened up new lands and cultures to transcontinental commerce. The Renaissance is credited to have bridged the gap between the Middle Ages and modern-day civilization. In art, the Renaissance period combined influences of an increased awareness of nature, a revival of classical learning, and a more individualistic view of man. Such artists as Botticelli, Raphael and Michelangelo are a few of the big names of this period. A return to classical configurations can be seen in many artworks on Artsper. Artists such as Francine Van Hove, Frédéric Martin, Magda Von Hanau.
