"Eudaemonia" is the latest solo-show dedicated to Jean-Paul Agosti at Galerie Guillaume. It shows new watercolors executed by the artist between 2018 and 2020, ranging from small size to large size formats. Material effects and gorgeous colors are again the characteristics of Agosti's works and describe the beauty of the nature.
"Knowing that all these works are based on the same master principle recorded in the hundreds of forest photos that Jean-Paul Agosti took years ago is indeed puzzling. Perhaps his retina did not just see, but was directly connected to his consciousness - and to his generous nature. Thus the breadth of images - like a great tree - grows and spreads from this first vision. Each image is different, but connected to the others by almost invisible veins, then the foliage and the branches lead us to the solid, immoveable trunk. Again and always, fusion as part of diffraction, the infinitely small lodged at the heart of the infinitely large, and again the continual confrontation of the cosmos with chaos.
One can easily get lost in all of this, but Agosti is often willing to enlighten. He invites us to venture both into the gardens and deep in the thickets, in order to find the clues which guide us to the clearings : his paintings. The titles of his work, when they are not evoking the literature of the Holy Grail, remind us of the dream-like garden labyrinths created some centuries ago for the Italian or British aristocracy."
Irène Frain - extract of the text written for the monography "Agosti"
