Post-Impressionnisme
Le post-impressionnisme est un mouvement artistique qui a principalement existé en France entre 1886 et 1905. Ces années marquent la dernière exposition tenue par les impressionnistes, et le début du fauvisme. Le post-impressionnisme est né d'une réaction à l'art impressionniste, qui représentait la lumière et la couleur de manière naturelle. Au lieu de cela, les artistes post-impressionnistes ont privilégié les couleurs vives et non-naturelles et ont mis l'accent sur les qualités picturales de leurs œuvres. Ils utilisaient aussi fréquemment des formes géométriques et déformées qui accentuaient leur éloignement du naturalisme.
Le post-impressionnisme se distingue de l'impressionnisme par son objectif d'exprimer des émotions à travers l'art, plutôt que de produire simplement des impressions visuelles. Il s'oriente souvent vers l'abstraction et le symbolisme. Cependant, les post-impressionnistes n'ont pas totalement rejeté l'impressionnisme. Ils ont continué à utiliser divers éléments impressionnistes, comme la peinture d'après nature et la technique de l'impasto, où la peinture est appliquée en couches épaisses pour en faire valoir la texture.
Les artistes considérés comme les chefs de file du post-impressionnisme sont Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat et Paul Cézanne. Le mouvement comprend différents styles et mouvements artistiques tels que Les Nabis, le néo-impressionnisme, le symbolisme, l'école de Pont-Aven et le synthétisme. Cela reflète la diversité de style de l'art post-impressionniste.
