Akt- und Porträtkünstler

Die blauen Tänzerinnen (1899) von Edgar Degas können als eine der herausragendsten Pastellzeichnungen aller Zeiten angesehen werden. Lebendige, atmende Figuren, die in einem Moment festgehalten wurden, den sie vielleicht für einen banalen Augenblick in ihrem Alltag hielten. Das lebendige Zeichnen, oder Figurenzeichnen wird in der Regel in vielen Kunstschulen und Akademien gelehrt. Pastell-, Kohle- oder Bleistiftzeichnungen stehen meist am Beginn einer Künstlerkarriere an. Es wird oft als die idealste Art und Weise angesehen, den menschlichen Körper darzustellen und seine Linien, Tiefe und Form zu erfassen, die für ein Porträt notwendig sind – demnach eine wertvolle Fähigkeit. Das Lebendporträt fängt jedoch oft den Körper in Bewegung ein, was den Künstler dazu veranlasst gleichermaßen Muskelbewegungen, Richtung und Perspektive darzustellen. Das 19. Jahrhundert brachte nicht nur Degas hervor, sondern auch die Kamera und die Konzentration der Künstler auf die Darstellung von Bewegung - auf Schnappschüsse des Lebens. In Artspers eigener Auswahl sind die Werke des Lebendporträtisten Marc Desgrandchamps, inspiriert von der Zerlegung der Bewegung in Eadweard Muybridges chronofotografischen Experimenten. Die Arbeiten von Alejandra Caballero sind hingegen viel introspektiver und verweisen darauf, dass auch die leiseren, subtileren Bewegungen im Leben, wie ein Telefongespräch oder ein Bad, festgehalten werden müssen.
